(More customer reviews)On the plus side, since the umbrella is bubble- or dome-shaped and made of clear PVC (vinyl) you can put it over your head and shoulders keeping them very dry and helping prevent the umbrella from turning inside-out in the wind. (A regular umbrella has to be held up high, thereby letting rain hit your head/shoulders from the side, and also letting a lot of air strike the umbrella from underneath. Also, the fabric of a regular umbrella tends to let mist pass through.) Also, the plastic handle, the metal shaft, the metal ribs, and the clear PVC seem reasonably sturdy.
On the minus side: First, the PVC is attached to the metal ribs by means of plastic tips that are "welded" onto the PVC (see "customer image"). The connections don't look very strong, which could result in the PVC detaching from the ribs, thereby rendering the umbrella unattractive or unusable. Also, the tips could "pop off" the ends of the ribs (in which case you'd have to glue them back on). Second, the umbrella latches in the closed position as well as the open position, so it may take some fumbling around in the rain to unlatch and open it. Third, the PVC attracts dust when dry. Finally (see "customer image"), it arrived in a huge Amazon J4 (40"x12"x15.75") box; a smaller box, for example 36"x5"x5", would have saved cardboard and packing material (i.e., would have been more environmentally-friendly) yet would have protected the item well.
Buy this from Amazon.com! Note: this item might be the same as Rainkist Clear Bubble Umbrella; however, I can't tell for sure, partially because the Rainkist tag that was attached to the umbrella had its UPC code cut off.
